Maundy Thursday 1944

Dougie ~ Kate's youngest now 13 ~ watering my garden in days gone by ~ nothing whatever to do with the story but such a sweet picture !
Mother's account of how I was cured of epilepsy

It must run in the family

Maundy Thursday ~ as I was born in 1933 you might think I'm coming up to 80 ~ infact, although admittedly I'm getting frailer these days, I feel as if I'm only coming up to 70 ~ in many ways TODAY IS MY 70th BIrthday !!   You are going to find it hard to believe what follows, so I will let Mother tell you in her own words, her own handwriting.  I am having a job scanning the pages and attaching them here but think it is worth persevering.

I have typed up her account of my cure ~ see 'Easter 1944' blog number

and finally

Makes you think . . .

Every year until she became gaga, poor old love, Mother would phone me on Maundy Thursdays to scold me : "Why aren't you a Christian ?"   But I always disappointed her.  However I know very well that without this Maundy Thursday minor miracle I would have spent my life with other epileptics in a sheltered community ~ we have a wonderful one near here, Botton it's called ~ or is it Brotton ~ missing out on all the COLOUR, all the MAGIC, all the LOVE, all the MISTAKES , all the PAIN and DISAPPOINTMENTS ~ my life would have been spent quietly making baskets or rhubarb jam !!  So this Heathen on THIS Maundy Thursday a full 70 years later cries loud and joyfully  Praise the Lord !!!

They say that epilepsy is not hereditary but I seem to have got mine from both sides of our family, Angus and Proctor.    And more than that, two of my children are epileptic ~ Will and Georgie ~ and both as bright as buttons, and Will a Ph.D (Ornithology) !

I won't mention this again but felt it was worth recording while I am still with you !   Hope you can read Mother's handwriting.   Heavens ~ look at the time ~ 10.30pm ~ I must go down and make a mug of hot chocolate and finish reading the paper.   Goodnight all !

And heard from Will ~ he and his family will definitely be coming up to Whitby for Easter so that's good !

I am in the same position. Amazingly, your case R(IS)1/93 - CIS/270/1991 is being used against me. Clearly, it got more complicated. Can I quote your blog? Mike
